12 Months Old and Nearly 4

August 16, 2017

One last gushing over Claire post, I promise. Maybe. Anyway, I had borrowed this quilt to hang up for Claire’s party, which we intended to have in the backyard until mother nature had other plans. It was handmade by my grandma Koster many years ago and I have lots of memories of seeing it around our family cottage. Grandma never got to meet my girls, so it’s kind of cool to see them playing with something of hers.

It’s becoming nearly impossible to get Claire to sit still for pictures. She’s kind of an animal lately!

Crazy kid.

I would gladly keep her this age for a while longer if I could. She’s just so much fun. Claire has two new words the past couple weeks – “hi!” and “cackaa” for cracker. She weighs 20 lbs and 6 oz, and can stand on her own for a few seconds at a time. She’s really good at standing and then squatting back down to sit, but she refuses to try walking on her own yet. The other day we heard the song “Handclap” by Fitz and the Tantrums in the car and I could hear the sweetest little clapping along to the song from the back. She loves music and pays a lot more attention to it than Ellie ever has.

I kiss that face as many times as she will let me every day.

Claire is in love with Ellie, although they have plenty of typical sisterly moments lately. Claire hates to be told no or to have something taken from her. We’ve had lots of clashes over toys and Claire is a wicked pincher if she feels frustrated. That said, they do play so cute together sometimes that it melts me.

This little firecracker is almost four. She had an adenoid/tonsillectomy at the end of July. We had a rough patch for a while, but she seems to be doing much better lately. The craziest thing is that her voice has changed in pitch (higher) by a little bit than it was before the surgery. It’s most noticeable to people who see her frequently and it was kind of startling for Ted and I. Physically, she has stopped snoring and having sleep apnea, and can breathe through her nose again. Hallelujah!

Ellie has been a challenging kid for the past year – she’s a THREENAGER! So much drama, big emotions, lots of crying and whining, and just all around crabby a lot of the time. She still has her sweet moments and I know my happy girl is still in there, but I can’t wait for her to get over this phase. We are hoping that a lot of it may have been due to poor sleep because of her tonsils, so here’s hoping that she will magically flip a switch and be back to normal when she turns four in a couple weeks!

Aside from the temper, Ellie can be a lot of fun too. She has a great imagination and will play with her little dolls and figurines for hours making them talk and drive around in cars. She has an artsy side, which is fun for me, and loves to do crafts and coloring. She loves all things princess and pink and plays with her baby dolls and stuffed animals all day long. Her favorite thing to do is raid Claire’s dresser and put her outfits, socks and headbands on all her dolls. One of Ellie’s favorite places to go is Costco for the samples and to look at the books and toys. Her other faves are BuyBuy Baby to push around all the strollers, and Flowerland because she loves the store cat that roams around. She told me she wants to buy the house across the street from ours when she grows up, and she will live there with all her cats and babies. Sounds like a good plan to me – but maybe minus the cats haha.
