Miscellaneous Updates

First of all, today is my 4th wedding anniversary. Last year at this time, we were getting ready to move to PA, and next year at this time we will be getting ready to move back to MI. Ted is the best thing that has ever happened to me, and I continue to be thankful for him more and more every day. In other news, I have a bunch of odds and ends to share from my latest phone...

Married to Medicine

Understanding the medical world can be hard. People who are unfamiliar with the process ask us about Ted’s status all the time. I thought it might be fun to explain the steps he has been through and the ones yet to come. Undergrad Ted was accepted to Michigan State University College of Human Medicine’s early acceptance program called Medical Scholars as a senior in high school.  This program essentially saved him a spot in medical school following completion of his undergraduate...

April Updates and Instagram

April has been a good month. The weather has been much, much nicer and my attitude has been much, much better. Haha. Ellie and I have been spending most of our days outside lately, and have had fun finding new local playgrounds to visit. She has no fear of new things and has a fierce independent streak that has shown up strong lately. Tallest slide in the playground? No problem and if I try to help her I get swatted...

Remembering Grandpa

My grandpa Weller passed away on Friday. He had not been healthy for a long time, but the week of his death things progressed very quickly. I was thankful to have been able to do FaceTime with him on Wednesday night – he even got to watch Ellie being cute in the bathtub! By Friday morning he was gone, and I couldn’t believe it. I am so grateful he was there for my wedding....

Meijer Gardens

Last Michigan post – I promise! Our last day (the day after Christmas) we decided to go to PF Changs for dinner and then to the Meijer Gardens Christmas trees exhibit. They had tons of live trees decorated with typical ornaments from various countries. My favorite was the Hungarian tree (shown behind me in the photo below). It had these really pretty felt ornaments that I would love to learn how to make myself. Or else I guess I’ll have...

Colorado Springs – Zoo/Shrine of the Sun

We were in Colorado for most of last week, visiting Ted’s mom. Our flight arrived around 11:00 am on Wednesday in Denver. Ted’s sister Tricia and her husband Dane wouldn’t arrive from Detroit until late that evening, so we had the whole rest of the day to kill once we made it to the Springs. Ted and I had never been to the zoo before, so we decided to take our little animal lover there. As part of the park...

Amish Paradise – aka Lancaster, PA

So, we have a large Amish population in this state. Not just Amish, but lots of Mennonites too. I wasn’t really aware of many facts about the Amish prior to living here, other than the basics – no electricity or cars, etc. We did recently see an Amish girl at our local farmer’s market scrolling through Instagram on her iPhone though. I probably stared for just a little too long at that one. It just made me wonder what their...

The City of Brotherly Love Pt. 2

Did I mention we decided to get a hotel room in Philly for one night? It’s a 1.5 hour drive to Hershey, sometimes closer to 2 hours, so we wanted to be able to spend as much time there as we wanted, without feeling pressured to get out before rush hour, or have to commute twice in one week. We stayed at the Wyndham, right in the middle of the historic district, for a steal of a deal because it...

Road Trippin – Baltimore Ikea

So my main reason for going to Ikea was to buy a highchair for Ellie. The Antellop to be exact. The one that said it was in stock online and in the store, but was definitely, most definitely NOT when I got there. Well, they had the plastic shell, but not the legs. Because that’s useful. So anyway, our trip was a bit of a bust, but E and I made the most of it. I got her a couple...
