Pumpkin Season

Fall is a really fun season in Hershey. It was this time last year when I finally starting feeling more at home here. There are tons of activities to keep us busy, and the fall color is at its peak. Last weekend we went to a pumpkin patch to get Ellie a carving pumpkin and we also picked some more apples. I, like just about everyone, love to bake and eat all things pumpkin and apple this time of the...

Hersheypark

We decided to get a season pass to Hersheypark this year. Ellie is still free, and it worked out great for her and I to just drop by the park for a couple hours once or twice a week this summer. ...

Miscellaneous Updates

First of all, today is my 4th wedding anniversary. Last year at this time, we were getting ready to move to PA, and next year at this time we will be getting ready to move back to MI. Ted is the best thing that has ever happened to me, and I continue to be thankful for him more and more every day. In other news, I have a bunch of odds and ends to share from my latest phone...

Hershey – Zoo America

On Monday our play group made a visit to the Hershey zoo. It’s very small and free entrance is included if you purchase a ticket to Hersheypark, but it’s a fun place to hang out with the kids. Our group also got a little presentation by one of the zookeepers who showed the kids a tarantula, snake, owl and skunk. Ellie wanted no part of sitting still to watch, as usual. She had fun running around the room and climbing...

Hershey Gardens

Today we had our first visit to the Hershey Gardens. The tulips look gorgeous right now, and while it’s no Holland, MI, it was still very pretty and fun to walk around. I just ordered our Hersheypark season pass today, but haven’t bought the extension for the gardens yet. Luckily we have friends who have, and Fridays are bring a friend for $5.00 days. Ellie had a blast running around and they have some fun stuff to do in the children’s...

Lucky

Not too much to say, other than I’ve been feeling incredibly lucky lately. I have the best, most patient, hard working and loving husband. I have a beautiful little girl who is delightful, sweet, smart, and funny. We have a roof over our heads, and we can afford this time for me to stay at home. Sometimes it’s too easy for me to focus on the negative things, that I forget about all the good stuff....

Winter Wonderland

My parents were here visiting for a few days this past weekend, and we decided to visit this gorgeous place in Lancaster called Landis Valley Museum. We got several inches of fresh snow the day they drove in, and by the next day, everything was coated in white. Because the museum isn’t technically open for the season yet, we got to look around at what we could for free (and they gave us several more free vouchers to come back again...

Harrisburg State Capitol

Our Valentine’s Day was spent in downtown Harrisburg, touring the Capitol building. Super romantic right? The weather was freezing, so it turned out to be a great (free!) indoor activity that we had been wanting to see anyway. We were the only ones on our tour, which turned out to be nice with a busy, noisy toddler in tow. And the building? Gorgeous! It’s known to be one of the most highly ornate Capitol buildings in the US, and it...

Getting Our Vitamin D

I have barely spent any time outside for the past couple months. Just quick walks to and from the car through various parking lots has been pretty much it. Some days the cabin fever feelings start driving me crazy, but it’s hard to spend much time outside in the cold with a toddler. Well, last Friday night we got about 4 inches of snow (by far the most we’ve had at one time this winter), and Saturday was warm and...

Fort Hunter – Weekend Wandering

A few weekends ago we visited a park in Harrisburg called Fort Hunter. I wasn’t really aware of the history of this area, but the fort and house date back to the 1750’s – built mainly to protect the land and river from the Native Americans.  Now, it’s just a peaceful and scenic park with lots of nice trails for walking and exploring. And that’s Ellie’s favorite thing. She loved tromping around the woods. She tripped and fell down about...
