Well my friends, I did it! I finally finished my master bedroom redo. It was stalled at about 90% for a while, but the last few to-do items are checked off and I’m so happy to be done.
As a reminder of where we started, here is a blank canvas before pic.
The new wall color is Benjamin Moore Simply White, which is our trim color throughout the house. It has warm undertones and looks a bit creamy next to the bright ceiling white. We have coved plaster walls and ceilings and there was no real transition between the two. We had a piece of wood trim added all the way around the room near the ceiling to help remedy the white on white situation.
We also added new wall sconces on either side of the bed to free up nightstand space. We recently found some smart outlet adapters that our lamps are plugged into and controlled with an Amazon “Alexa.” We get a kick out of saying “Alexa turn off the lights” without having to get out of bed. It’s the future man.
Slowly, slowly I’ve been painting art pieces for our house after living here for 3 years with mostly bare walls. This is something I really don’t mind taking my time with. I would love to own more original art by local artists and I like supporting Etsy shops, but I’ve also realized I can make a lot of things myself with a little trial and error. It’s just paint! Often I look online for inspiration and then put my own spin on something I like. I painted this canvas above my dresser and had my dad make a frame for it.
Two things I would like to upgrade at some point are our pillows (for side sleeping) and our sheets. There are a huge number of options available for both, so I’m taking recommendations if you have a favorite!
Both of us are tall and when we bought a new mattress a couple years ago we decided to go with a California King. Standard King beds are almost square, but the Cali has a few extra inches of length – perfect for us.
The tutorial for how to make these silhouettes is in this previous post. I love looking at these sweet faces every day and I know I’ll appreciate them even more as my kids grow older.
A couple new pieces of furniture and accessories went a long way into making this room feel more like home. It used to feel like a constant reminder of unfinished projects, but now I love relaxing in here with a book at night. I’ll take recommendations for those too!
